トロント大学の RPO: Representative Poetry Onlineには、(2)で書いたように" Your comments and questions are welcomed." と書かれているので、実は勢いで昨日質問をメールしちゃったモーリちゃんの父であった。そして今朝大学メール（なんとなく信用してもらえるかな、と @berkeleyのアドレスから出しました）をチェックしたら返事が届いていた。一部のみ学術的文章として引用します――

Thanks very much for your comments on the RPO edition. I checked our  
edition against our book-facsimile copytext and made one change,  
emending original "ban jo" to "ban-jo." The rest of our text  
accurately transcribes the print facsimile.

Two of the readings you attribute to RPO (Louiisiana, rained) are not  
in our copy. Were you looking at another version?

The Web facsimile to which you refer (and thanks for that too) is a  
different early edition. The title of the printed facsimile that RPO  
uses, for instance, gives prices only for three songs, nos. 1, 2, and  
9, whereas the Web edition you cite has prices for all but 4 and 6.  
The two at first look to be the same but on closer inspection are not.

you took to express your concerns. I will refer to the Levy Collection  
site in our  Foster poet-page.

　　ｃｃに他の人の名前がふたり入っていたのでちょっと公式な感じもしました。迅速で誠意あるな対応にいたみいったモーリちゃんの父でしたが、やっぱりなんでやねんと納得いかないので、こうなったら本に直接あたるしかないと思った。最初の質問だから丁寧に応対したのかもしれず、何度もやり取りするのは嫌がるだろうから、いっぱつで納得させなければならない。

　　大慌てでバークレーの大学図書館の検索を行なったがヒットしなかった。しょうがないから買ってやるか、と調べたら古本で80ドルぐらいした。いやだ。図書館の検索の仕方がまちがっていたかもしれないしと、WorldCat.org で調べてみました。これはある本が世界のどこの図書館にあるかを教えてくれるとても便利な検索です。"Minstrel-Show Songs" の検索結果。このままだと　"Sorry, we cannot identify the location you entered. Please re-enter your location."　と出てしまいますが、下記のインストラクションに従って、"Enter Location Information"の空欄に情報を入れると出てきます。

　で、バークレーに近い、たとえばTOKYO FISH MARKET の郵便番号94706 を入れると　⇒<http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/6237512&tab=holdings?loc=94706> で、"Berkeley Public Library (Berkeley, CA 94704 United States 4km" を筆頭に "out of 2300 for all 303 editions" とよく素性のわからない303の版の本のありかが並びますが、"Just this Edition " をクリックすると 273に減少、2位だったUCBが1位にきます"University of California Berkeley (Berkeley, CA 94720 United States 4km"。（なんだやっぱあるんじゃん）

JAPAN と入れると　⇒　<http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/6237512&tab=holdings?loc=Japan> で3つ出ますけど、　"just this edition" で絞ると国立音大だけになります。

　　ちなみに前の方のやりかたで検索すると、近い順に出てくるので、Kunitachi College of Music Library (Tachikawa Tokyo, 190 Japan" は273件中の272位、距離が遠すぎて測れません（うそですがなぜか出ない。271位の4400ｋｍと273位のイギリスの8600kmのあいだと思われ）。おもしろいですねー（笑）。

　　　って、こんなことを朝やっていたわけではないです。ともかくバークレーにあることがわかったので、どの図書館か（たくさん分かれているんです）。クリックするとどこかで見たページにWorldCat.orgからつながりました。 UCB LIBRARY Pathfinder です。それでまた "Minstrel-Show Songs" を入れると結果が出てきて、Location(s)が青くなっています。

　　で、またクリックして図書館のコードを確認して、Jean Gray Hargrove Music Library という図書館だとわかりましたので、検索結果のページとマップをダッシュで印刷して、もう外で待っているモーリちゃんたちに追いついたのでした。もちろん、そのまま図書館へ行って調べるつもりです。（つづく）

　　（ついしん）　もともと雑感・日記ブログなので、内容にまとまりはなく、ノイズが多いのが特徴なのですが、あまりにあいだに関係ない話が入りそうなので、ここでカットして、あいだに「バークレーまで歩く」をはさんで、「おおスザンナ」(5)に続きます（ってまだどちらも書いてないので、おおスザンナについて考えながらバークレーへの道を歩くという感じですが。

　　（ついしん２）　メールに言及されていたRPOのフォスターのページ <http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/poet/127.html> というのを見たら、たしかに "Notes on Life and Works" の最後に " A facsimile of another early edition of Foster's "songs" appears online in the Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music at the Sheridan Libraries of the Johns Hopkins University."と書き足されていた。でもbad link でした。ちょっと待ってくれ～♪
