January 19 ポーの記念切手とか

    今日はマーティン・ルーサー・キングの誕生日を祝う日で、"Martin Luther King Jr. Day" としてnational holiday 国民の祝日になっていて、小学校も休みです。"Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday" とベイエリアの日本人向けの冊子のカレンダーには書いてあったけれど、正式には "Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr." みたい・・・・・・そのまんまｗ。ほんとうの誕生日は1月15日なんですけれど、2000年にはじまったこの祝日の場合、1月の第3月曜日というふうに決められたので、年によって日が違います。ちょっと不条理を感じなくもないです。他の祝日はともかく、誕生日だからなあ。

　　で、今日がほんとうに誕生日なのは、前にも書いたように、荒井由実です・・・・・・エドガー・アラン・ポーです。

　　ということを、さっきの記事でポーの名前が出て思い出しました。

　　今年は1809年に生まれたポーの生誕200年で、1月16日に東部のリッチモンドで記念切手がつくられました。実はそんなことは知らなかったのですが、日本からの買ってくれメールが届いて知りました。

The stamp portrait of Edgar Allan Poe is by award-winning artist Michael J. Deas, whose research over the years has made him well acquainted with Poe’s appearance. In 1989, Deas published The Portraits and Daguerreotypes of Edgar Allan Poe, a comprehensive collection of images featuring authentic likenesses as well as derivative portraits.

   東部でしか発売しない可能性も示唆されビビっているのですが、土日と祝日は郵便局がたぶんあいていないので（土曜は午前中あいているかも）、明日ソラノの郵便局へ行ってみようと思っています。"Edgar Allan Poe Ceremony Program" というのも、なんかいかにも限定で売っているみたいなので、オンラインのUSPS ショップで買ってみようと思ったら、例によってデビットカードとクレジットカードがはじかれました。くそー。腹が立ったから、問い合わせメールを出してみました。

ポーのお顔、初めて見ました。
江戸川乱歩の名前がポーの名前をもじったものだと知って、小学校か中学校の頃に『黒猫』を読んだ事があります。

同じく初めて拝見致しましたよ。なんか近所のコンビニの店員さんに似て…。
家の兄が大ファンで、小説やたらと集めてましてねぇ。だから何となく今の今まで一冊も読んだ事がありませんでしたよ。兄妹の変な意地の張り合いの賜物です。居ない時狙って勝手に読み漁ってみようと思います。

この生誕200年記念切手は16日に発売されたばかりです（むかし、切手があったような気はしますが）。なんか微妙にやらかい顔になっているようですｗ
