　　　魂の在所

　支那では、魂の在所は腹であることが判明した、そして明敏なギリシア人は、同じことを二つの言葉で言い現すのを無駄に思い、心と隔膜の両方の意味に、φρένες という唯一つの言葉を用いて居た。（吉田健一訳『覚書（マルジナリア）』

 　ネットで原文を探すと、例のボルティモアのポー協会にE-textがあり。ひとつは『サザン・リテラリー・メッセンジャー』誌1849年7月号所収の "Marginalia - Part XVI" 初出テクスト　――
