IBDB [Internet Broadway DataBase]: The Official Source for Broadway Information
Jimmy Reeves has three wards: Frankie, June, and Dora. When Jimmy takes Frankie's diary (she has been filling it with nasty lines about him), Frankie enlists a pilot she worships (Peter) and Dora's boyfriend (Dugsie) to steal it back. But while Peter and Dugsie are carrying out their mission, two real crooks―Chester and Herbert―break into Jimmy's home to purloin the family jewels. The diary and the jewels (both kept in blue envelopes) [. . .]
The Oxford Companion to American Theatre
He Loves and She Loves" のかわりにガーシュウィン以外の手になる"Imagination" という曲が使われるとか、他の曲にも歌詞の追加(アイラのものではないと推測されている)があるとかもするわけです)。
VERSE 1 JIMMY: Frankie, dear, your birthday gift reveals to me 1 That at heart you're really not so bad. If I add, your funny face appeals to me, Please don't think I've suddenly gone mad. You have all the qualities of Peter Pan; 5 I'd go far before I'd find a sweeter pan. And yet
REFRAIN 1 I love your funny face, Your sunny, funny face; For you're a cutie 10 With more than beauty; You've got a lot Of personality N. T. A thousand laughs I've found In having you around. 15 Though you're no Gloria Swanson, For worlds I'd not replace Your sunny, funny face.
VERSE 2 FRANKIE: Needn't tell me that I'm not so pretty, dear, When my looking glass and I agree. 20 In the contest at Atlantic City, dear, Miss America I'd never be. Truth to tell, though, you're not such a lot yourself; As a Paul Swan, you are not so hot yourself. And yet 25
REFRAIN 2 I love your funny face, Your sunny, funny face. You can't repair it, So I declare it Is quite all right― 30 JIMMY: Like Ronald Colman? FRANKIE: So's your ol' man! Yet it's very clear, I'm glad when you are near. Though you're no Handsome Harry 35 For worlds I'd not replace Your sunny, funny face.
REFRAIN 3 FRANKIE: I love that funny face, That sunny, funny face. Though it upsets one, 40 In time, it gets one― That's true, for you Have personality for two. Those eyes! Those nose! Those cheeks! Won't make a movie sheik, 45 But though you're no patootie, For worlds I'd not replace Your sunny, funny face.
EXTRA CHORUS FRANKIE: [to dog] I love your funny face, Your sunny, funny face. 50 You never bother About your father. Have you no shame? You're just a mutt and nothing but! Yet when you wag your tail, 55 You'll never be for sale. Though you're no Rin Tin Tin, dear, For worlds I'd not replace Your sunny, funny face.
24行目: Paul Swan は「the most beautiful man in the world 世界で最も美しい男」と言われたアメリカのダンサー (1883-1972)。
Rudolf Valentino and Vilma Banky in Son of the Sheik (1926)
M. Hull の小説 The Sheik (1921) の映画化(1926年には続編Son of the Sheik)で主演した Rudolf Valentino のSheik Ahmed Ben Hassan のイメジ。 Rin Tin Tin Official Site: Rin Tin Tin ~ The World's Most Famous German Shpherd Dog 〔クリック注意 "I Wish I Had a Dog Like Rin Tin Tin" の曲が流れます〕

ただ、プロットに直接かかわるのはジミー のverse の冒頭の "Frankie, dear, your birthday gift reveals to me / That at heart you're really not so bad." 続く "If I add, your funny face appeals to me, / Please don't think I've suddenly gone mad."
それが "High Hat" という歌です〔Fred Astaire and "boys"〕。 verse はジミーの "When a fellow feels he's got to win a girlie's handie, / He will send her loads of flowers, books, and tons of candy."(女の子の手をニギニギしたいと思えば、たくさんの花や本、いっぱいのキャンディーを送るだろう)で始まり、Boys が "The overhead is big; / Oh, how they make us dig!" 〔overhead (間接)経費というような意味ですが、頭や帽子と縁語になっている〕と応答し、ジミーは "No use stepping out that way―The thing to do is lay low. / You can't win by treating her as if she wore a halo" 〔step out は「威勢よくふるまう」「社交にふける」。 "What is your solution? / Tell us if you can."
High hat! You've got to treat them high hat! Don't let them know that you care; But act like a Frigidaire. You'll win them like that! Stand pat! Put on your gayest cravat, But keep your feet on the ground. Oh boy! How they'll come around! Just treat them high hat!
それにしても、3行目の "Don't let them know that you care" (彼女たちに好きだとわからせないようにしろ)というのは、このあとの "'S Wonderful" の "'S wonderful! 'S marvelous― / You should care for me!"

The Play Pictorial

The two miracle-workers are Fred and Adèle [èとアクサンがついています。 Astaire, the young Americans who first took London by storm in Stop Flirting. In their new play, Lady, Be Good, they are repeating the success they achieved in thier first London appearance. The critics all agree that there is very little story in the play, very little form―yet all London is flocking to the Empire! The secret lies, of course, in the personality of the two principals, the over-fresh, ever-vivacious Astaires. Lady, Be Good is in reality 'a dancing riot,' as one critic has termed it. Throughout the evening their dance numbers rouse the audience to heights of enthusiasm and amusement rearely achieved on the stage. The four pictures we give above, taken from the play, show these two skilful artists in a few of their very quaint scenes."
Come on, Fred, I'm not your sister, you know."

ついでながら、tryout ではここに "How Long Has This Been Going On?" He Loves and She Loves" はプレ・ブロードウェイのtryout の最終週、つまりWilmingtonで付け加えられた曲です。 ただ、verse 1 の "[Peter:] If the human race is / Full of happy faces― /[Frankie:] It's because they all love / That wondrous thing they call love." と verse 2 の冒頭の "[Frankie:] Feel a funny feeling" そして最後の "[Peter:] From now on, we're in clover" という歌詞は、一方で "funny face" と響き合い、もう一方で "'S Wonderful" の歌詞と響き合っているように思われます。
Come! Come Closer!" Let's kiss and make up" というフレーズがあり、" Come along, let's gamble, / Gamble on the wheel. / Losing, winning, / When it's spinning, / What a thrill you feel!" ―― "[Ensemble:] Good heavens! They're gone! / Good heavens! They're gone! / What an awful mess / Make 'em both confess! / Judging by their looks, / They must be the crooks! / Call the police! / Call the police!"
別題 "If You Will Take Our Tip"。 で使われなかった "The Moon Is on the Sea" を再利用したもの]。 浮ついたダグシーと女性たちの歌 "Tell the Doc" は、まあ歌詞を読む限りは滑稽な歌ですが、歌いだしが "I'm a physician whose mission you know― / Deals with the subject of dreams. / I'll burst your troubles like bubbles, for Oh! / No dream is just what it seems. / Bring your dreams to me and I assure you / I'll interprete them―That's how I'll cure you."
ジミーはもう一人の娘のジューンへの愛を確信する["What Am I Going to Do" ("My One and Only") 歌はジミーとジューン]。
Two Million Dollar Pier Everybody is a cuckoo, these days. The dumber you talk, the more intelligent everyone thinks you are" ["The Babbitt and the Bromide" ジミーとフランキーの歌。
FRANKIE: 'S wonderful! PETER: 'S marvelous― BOTH: City hall's in view. FRANKIE: 'S marriage licence. PETER: 'S Niag'ra Falls. BOTH: 'S 'appiness for two! DUGSIE: You've made my life so ting-a-lish; I'll even overlook your Eng-a-lish. JIMMY: Oh, wedding bells fill the air Now that I know you care.
Version sung in "Finale Ultimo" PETER: I love your funny face― FRANKIE: Your sunny, funny face― PETER: The news I'm spreading About our wedding― [Enter Dugsie and Dora] DUGSIE: My heart's enlarged I'll buy a home and have it charged. [Enter Jimmy and June] JIMMY: Trouble takes the air; We'll be a happy pair. [Enter Chester and Herbert] HERBERT: We thank you for our freedom. You've saived us from disgrace. We love your funny face.
Earlier Version of "Finale Ultimo" PETER: I love your funny face― FRANKIE: Your sunny, funny face― PETER: The news I'm spreading About our wedding― [Enter Dugsie and Dora] DUGSIE: I feel so tinglish, I'll even overlook your English. [Enter Jimmy and June] JIMMY: Trouble takes the air; We'll be a happy pair. [Enter Chester and other crook] CHESTER: For twenty years at Sing Sing, My cell I'll have to pace And love your funny face.
tingle + ishで "Characterized by tingling, quivering." 用例は1855年の英国の詩人Robert Browning の "For them the panels may thrill, The tempera grow alive and tinglish." で、これが捨てられて上のヴァージョンにとってかわり、いっぽうで、"'S Wonderful" のフィナーレ・ウルティモ版に、同じダグシーの歌詞として "You've made my life so ting-a-lish; / I'll even overlook your Eng-a-lish."
しかしまた、"'S Wonderful" のほうの "You've made my life so ting-a-lish; / I'll even overlook your Eng-a-lish." "'S 'appiness for two!"
Someone to hold me tight That would be very nice Someone to love me right That would be very nice Someone to understand Each little dream in me Someone to take my hand To be a team with me 〔team
So nice, life would be so nice! If one day I'd find Someone who would take my hand And samba through life with me
Someone to cling to me Stay with me right or wrong Someone to sing to me Some little samba song Someone to take my heart Then give his heart to me Someone who's ready to Give love a start with me
Oh yes, that would be so nice! Should it be you and me I can see it would be nice!

" Sesame Street - Sing (AUDIO ONLY) " (3:00) poste by NantoVision on January 11, 2008
Sing (Canta) Sing a song (Canta una canción) Sing out loud (Canta en voz alta) Sing out strong (Canta fuerte) Sing of good things, not bad (Cosas buenas, no malas) Sing of happy, not sad (Alegre, no triste) Sing (Canta) Sing a song (Canta una canción) Make it simple to last your whole life long (Todo la vida) Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear Sing (Canta) Sing a song (Canta una canción)
で、問題は、日本語歌詞だと「幸せが来るように、大きな声を出し、恥ずかしがらずに」 という子供向けになっている "Make it simple to last your whole life long / Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear" の2行なんですが、番組内でLuis が歌うのとカーペンターズが歌うのと、違っているようなのに気がつきました(ま、いまさらなんですが)。

It's
from a song called "Canta" by the Carpenters. If you know it, then you
probably guessed it... "Sing"! It's the Spanish version though. Karen
has a hard time with the line, but with my Spanish 3 knowledge, I think
I got it.
She sings "Hazla sencilla, para que dure toda tu vida." I think this
means "Make it (la canción) simple so that it lasts your whole life,"
right? We just learned subjunctive with other phrases, and para que was
one of them. Is that why durar is in the subjunctive?
Muchas gracias... ^_^

You're
right - Hazla sencilla, para que dure toda tu vida - but it sounds
awful in the Spanish version because 'vida' comes out as 'vidá'
Para que + subjunctive - spot on!
She does actually sing 'canta una canción' but the final 'a' of 'canta'
is merged with the 'u' of 'una' - this is not unusual because Spanish
has no glottal stops.
Note also the use of 'seseo' where the zeta is pronounced like an 's.
I think this
means "Make it (la canción) simple so that it lasts your whole life,"
right? という、実は英語("Make it simple to last your whole life long")でも自信がなかった(情けない笑)ところもはっきりさせてくれているところです。
So Nice!」
のあとは "Don't worry that it's not good enough / For anyone else to hear. / Canta una canción."

A non descript exclamation which usually accompanies alot of hooting
and whistling at whatever is causing the excitement. Most likely coined
in the southern states of north America (eg Texas). Can also be used to
punctuate traditional country and western music.
It might also be exclaimed by the rider of a bull or bucking bronco at a rodeo or their spectators.

Lyrics for Album: Startin With Me
It’s five o’clock, just got paid:
I’ll be off the next two days.
No more workin’ like dogs,
No more leash, no more boss.
I’ve got a weekend of nothin’ to do at all:
Yee Haw!
I know a place down the road,
The girls are hot, the beer is cold.
It’s two-for-one, yeah, that’s right:
Not just drinks; it’s girls to guys.
I hear the twins are back in town from Saginaw:
Yee Haw!
You take your all-right; you take your can’t-wait.
A lotta of bring-it-on an’ some damn straight,
An’ mix it all up with some down home southern drawl, y’all:
You got your yee haw!

Tokyo Television will be showing the 2006 Japanese Academy Award winning film, Hula Girls, on local television via KTSF Channel 26.
The movie will be broadcast in two parts; part 1 will air on Sunday,
October 19th at 8:30pm and part 2 will air a week later on Sunday,
October 26th at the same time. In Japanese with English subtitles.
From the TTV Fall Special Program flyer:
The “Hula dance” that the local girls performed
earnestly was purely to save their coal mining town which was facing
serious unemployment. A heartwarming and moving story that depicts the
bonds of people who devoted their energy and soul in protecting their
hometown. The first class cast starring Yasuko Matsuyuki, Yu Aoi,
Etsuji Toyokawa and the Ukulele music written by Jake Shimabukuro makes
the movie even more special and endearing. This movie is based on a

May Day marks the end of the winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere,
and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous
celebrations, regardless of the locally prevalent political or
religious establishment.
As America became Christianized the pagan
holidays lost their religious character and either changed into popular
secular celebrations, as with May Day, or were replaced by new Christian holidays as with Christmas, Easter, and All Saint's Day. In the start of the twenty-first century, many neopagans began reconstructing the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again. ポールのほうは性的なシンボリズムとしては男根ということになりますわな、いちおー(英語版Wikipediaの "Maypole" には、『ファニー・ヒル』の"...and now, disengag'd from the shirt, I saw, with wonder and
