    この日はBART に子供がタダで乗れるデーという日で、モーリちゃんの父はだいぶん前からテレビのニュースとかで聞いていたので、前の日の土曜日の夜にモーリちゃんとモーリちゃんの母に訴えてみた。「タダだしなんかもらえるみたいだよ」「でも大人はお金払うんでしょ」「まあね」「でもいちおうプリントアウトしてみて」「うん」　ということで、夜中にプリンターをつないでフリーチケットをプリントアウトした。

 

　　結局4日の日曜日は家でゴロゴロして過ごした。ま、予想された流れではあった。

　　で、プリントアウトしたチケットも、ついでにダウロードした画像もほっておいたのだが、時を経て見ると、趣旨が気になったのであった。

　　　"Chocolate Line" ってなんなんだろうと思いながらほっておいたのだけど、nesquik というのはmilo みたいな飲料なんですね。cocoa じゃなくて hot chocolate ということかしら。いや、熱くしなければただのchocolate でチョコレート飲料ですかね。

　　　あと、"come to your happy place" っていうのは前からnesquik の宣伝文句のようで。

     この催しについて、The San Francisco Citizen のblog で早くから紹介していたことがいまごろわかりました。   BART is Free for Kids all day on May 4th - “Ride the Chocolate Line” with the Nesquik Bunny

BART の子供割引チケットって買える駅は限られていて、いっぽうSafeway みたいなスーパーで売っていたりするんですよね。この記事で使っているflickrの写真はサンフランシスコかと思ったらWisconsinみたいで。なんかBunny (Quicky という名前らしい）のNの字が逆に見えるのが不思議。

　　アメリカでは1948年につくられたときからQuik という商品名で、Nesquik というのは国外での名称だったのが1999年に統一したとかWikipediaのNesquikの記事は妙に詳しいです（ただし典拠がないことを指摘されている）。ネスレってもともとスイスの会社でスイス人の名前なのだけれど、モーリちゃんの子供のころは日本では熱する、いやネッスルっていっていたと思います（実は大人になってからずっと気になっていたのだけれど）。リーダーズ英和辞典を引くと Nestlé /ˈnɛs li, ˈnɛsleI, ˈnɛs (ə)l/ というふうな発音で（ちょっと発音記号がそのまま表記できませんけど）、ネスレ（社）(～Ltd.) 《スイスの食品メーカー》 [Henri Nestlé (1814-90) 創業者]　と書かれています。英語は外国語の発音がいい加減なところがありますが、最後のは動詞のnestle (nest 巣　に由来する）の発音と同じですよね。あるいは意識的にnestle と同じにしたのを、日本でもそのまま入ってきたのかしら。よくわかりませんが、20年ぐらい前にネッスルからネスレに変わったような（すごいアバウトな記憶ですけど）。あ、日本語版ウィキペディアに次の記述があります。――

　　やっぱり。でもnessel(s)ってなんだべ。あ、英語版のNestlé の最初は発音の記述で、なんか細かく説明があります。

This was the pronunciation used in company merchandising in Australia and the UK for much of the 20th century, e.g. Nestlé's Milkybar, and is still used today in some regions such as the Black Country.

　　やっぱりもともと英語圏だとnestle と発音される場合が多かったのが、次第に語尾のe を（英語風にではあるけれど）読むように変わっているということですね。

　　さて、何が疑問だったのだろう。

June 27 ニュース報道から (3) BARTの爆発物騒ぎ

　　朝は7時から日本語のニュースを見て（今日はアナウンサーの久下香織子さんの髪型がアップに変わっていた）、そのあと2チャンネル(KTVU) か4チャンネル (KRON) に変えるのだけれど、今朝、その地元のテレビ局のニュースで、BART のOakland駅で爆発物騒ぎがあって避難した、みたいな報道をしていた（している、いま朝の9時過ぎです）。このあいだ自転車のニュースを見ていたときに、ホームページの案内をしていたのを思い出して、KTVU のページを見てみた。”Friday, June 27, 2008 8:54 （分、あ、いま「表示できませんと出たので戻したら9:10 am に変わりました）am PDT" の時点でトップに Suspicious Package Shuts Down Oakland BART Station という見出しで、 "A 'suspicious package' promted the evacuation of the Oakland City Center/12th Street Bay Area Rapid Transit station during Friday morning's commute, according to transit officials. More Details" と出ています。

　　　"More Details" （詳細を見る）と見出しのリンクは同一ページなのですが、いまクリックしたら、最初見たのと記事がもう変わっていました（笑）。"Oakland BART Station Re-Opens After Explosive Scare" になっちゃっている。でも記事番号は16726963で同じなのね。逆に、古いものは消えてしまうのでしょうか。モーリちゃんの父的には、10分くらい前に見た、犬がバックパックを嗅いで、疑わしいと〈犬が）判断したので、みたいな記事が面白かったので書こうと思ったのですけれど・・・・・消えちゃった。Oakland １２丁目駅を通過していたBART でしたが、9時頃に避難命令は解除されて、乗客たちは駅にはいることを許され、電車も停車するようになったとのことです。

　　　結局 a "suspicious package" は "determined to be harmless" と判定されたとのことのようで。犬はどう言っているのか・・・・・・知りたい。

　　　KTVUのネット記事の最後にはcopyright の記述があり "All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistricuted." と注記されています。でもまた更新されてしまうかもしれないので、一部だけ引用します。そして残りは「クチコミ」的に語ります。駅が閉鎖されたのは6時35分ごろですって。持ち主不明のバックパックを乗客が見つけて駅員と一緒に電車から降ろしたんですって。

"A station agent looked inside and saw a cylinder wrapped in something," Johnson told KTVU. "Two bomb dogs then sniffed the backpack and indicated something was wrong." The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad and University of California, Berkeley Bomb Squad investigated the package, according to Johnson, and determined that it did not pose a threat.

 

　　ありゃ、最初読んだときは一匹だった犬が2匹になっている。でも "Two police dog" と "dogs" になっていないところが単数だった痕跡ですね（笑）。大学に "Bom Squad" 爆発処理班? というのがあるとは知りませんでした。

　　しかし、ネットニュースもたいへんですね。
