1

Recycle your clean, flexible, strechable [sic.→ stretchable] plastic bags. (Grocery, dry cleaning, sandwich, bread & produce bags, bubble wrap, the thin plastic used to package toilet paper, paper towels, etc.)

Gather the loose bags into one bag and self-tie the bag.  Place it in the recycling container.  Do not use rubber bands, twist ties or tape.

PLEASE DO NOT: Throw single plastic bags into the recycling container — they can blow away.

あ、なるほど、seed というのはコンタクトレンズじゃなくて、"Sustainability, Environment and Economic Development" （資源維持、環境、経済の発展）の頭文字をとった略だったのね。

　で、Bag-a-bag です。話は要するに、プラスティックバッグ（日本でちょっと前に有料化ということで話題になった「レジ袋」です。いろんな店のレジで、第一に「バッグはいるか？」、第二に「紙バッグかプラスティックバッグか？」という質問が店員から発せられます）のリサイクルのために、1枚のプラスティックバッグのなかにプラスティックバッグを集めて入れて出してね、ということです。

　もうちょっと、細かく見ると、1では店のレジ袋だけでなくドライクリーニング・バッグとかサンドイッチ・バッグ（ってなんでしょ?）とかbubble wrap （これは梱包用のプチプチ発泡ビニールシートのことです） とかトイペとかペーパータオルの袋とか、きれいな、やらかい、伸びるタイプ(stretchable だと思います)のビニール袋をリサイクル、2では輪ゴムで留めたりしないで縛るかセロハンテープを使ってね、3では「するな」（って1, 2, 3 じゃないやん）で、1枚だけはやめてね――飛んでいってしまうから、ということです。

　　さて、Bag-a-bag。文法的には最初のbag が動詞だというくらいしか自信をもって言えませんけれども（いやそれも自信はないですけれども）、 どうやら、モーリちゃんの父が日本で見たことのある、レジ袋入れ袋のことも "bag-a-bag" と呼ぶようです。――

 

BAG a BAG　バッグのお店。 ここは"Did U bag ― it?" とか書いてあるし、 "bag" = obtain, get の意味で、違うと思います（違うの出すなよｗ）。

    モーリちゃんの父はもう15年も前に巣鴨の友人の画家の家で見た記憶があるのですが、そして、ほしいほしい、と思いながら歳月が過ぎてしまいました。日本ではなんと呼んでいるのでしょう。アメリカで買って帰ろうかしら。
